Gallery
I made the next page in the website from the previous assignment. The three thumbnails each lead to a gallery.
This is what the photography page looks like
I downloaded the galleria script from Google and altered it in Dreamweaver to match my color scheme and placed my own pictures instead of Martin's. I also made a link at the bottom to return back to the art page. This part was pretty easy and I like how it turned out.
Web Page
I downloaded a free CSS template to start my website. First, I deleted a lot of what was there. Then I made a banner in Illustrator and put it into a free Flash button bar which I also downloaded. I messed around in the nav bar for a long time, as I am not very familiar with Flash, but I made a different color pallet to match my banner and moved the buttons into the corner. When you roll over a button it pops up and shines and when you click it goes transparent. I plan on making this my website as soon as I can get it together and get the web space.

3D Coat Dino
Watch out Martin, I know you scare easily! I loaded a pre-made dino into the 3D Coat program and painted on a wrinkled texture. Then I made some blood drip out of its mouth and drew on some eyes. This program is pretty tricky to get the hang of and I accidentally drew on my model a lot while trying to move the camera around. I can see that there's lots of cool things you can do with this program, but I think it would take a whole class to really learn. I like the different textures and control you can have over the surface of your model better than the options in Lightwave, but, like I said, I felt clumsy while doing it.
I'm on fire!
I followed an online tutorial to create this image in Photoshop. I converted a picture I took to black and white then inverted colors. Then I used the wind filter to give it the streaky look and colorized diferent layers using blending modes to make it fire colors. Finally, I used the smudge tool to pull out "flames" and make it look more realistic. This was fun and pretty easy, though I had to use a photo with a lot of value range to get the detail in the end.

Mental Health Flash Cards
Western State Hospital wanted some flash cards to facilitate communication with non-verbal or non-English speaking patients. I was assigned four phrases to illustrate and these are them. I've worked with the developmentally disabled so I tried to keep their particular needs and fears in mind. I like how my flash cards turned out and I think they communicate the phrases clearly. I made the graphics in Illustrator and laid them out with text in InDesign.

Sticker
I used shapes and the pathfinder tool in Illustrator to create this design. I will load it into a vinyl cutting machine and cut out the different elements in their respective colors (except the yellow part will be metalic gold). Then I'm gonna stick it on my car right next to the sticker from Chill Out Burritos in Santa Cruz that says "We Roll The Fatties".

Photoshop Brushes
I drew a picture of a whale using black and two gray tones then converted it into a brush. The gray tones are less opaque than the black so they show up as lighter versions of whatever color you choose (in this case blue tones). I made a starfish picture also using black and grays and converted that into a brush. I turned on scatter, size, rotation and hue variety so when you make a stroke with the brush it scatters about slightly different starfish. I like how my composition turned out, I was feeling nautical.
Illustrator Brushes
I created a scatter brush out of a spider I made then I created an art brush using lines to make a web-like effect. I think it looks alright but I don't know if it pulls off my intended effect.

SLAM covers
These are a couple of designs I'm entering to be chosen as the cover for SLAM. I used Photoshop and Illustrator to mix filters and colors on photos I took. Then I placed text and applied effects. I wanted to make the designs eye-grabbing and I think I succeeded especially in the duotone one. It's hard to pick between the two because I like how easy to read and recognize the duotone cover is, but I like the colors and composition of the other one.

luciapop.avi
I used After Effects to animate some photos of the San Juans I took. Then, I cut it together with credits and music in Premier Pro. I like how it turned out even though I'd never used After Effects before.
Lower Case Font
Working from the font I already made, I created a lower case set and numbers using the pen tool and brushes in Illustrator. I combined them with the uppercase set in the font creation software so now when you install the font, you can type upper or lower case. This project went a lot quicker than the last font assignment, but it was still pretty tedious.

Tablet Line Drawing
I wanted to create fan art of a character from the video game Katamari. His head is a bowl of miso soup. I used the Wacom tablet and pen with Illustrator to make brush strokes then adjusted the brush type for a painterly style. It was hard for me to get the hang of the pen, but towards the end I got used to it.

Custom Font
I created a custom font by using the pen tool in Illustrator then using font creating software to set the kerning options. This font can be used in type now that I've saved the set as a .ttf file. This assignment was VERY tedious and I lost some steam towards the end. All in all, it's pretty cool that you can create your own fonts, but it's still less trouble to just find one to download.

Displacement Mapping
I used a photoshop brush and a displacement map to make "graffiti" on this statue. This process is finicky and requires the right kind of photo to really make it work.

Fauve Painting
I used different filters and adjustment layers in Photoshop to create a "Faux Fauve" painting out of a photo I took of Notre Dame. This process could be applicable in certain cases, especially when the original picture is maybe not in focus, but I think the look is pretty over-used in modern graphics.

Animated Photo
I used Photoshop brushes on different layers then animated them with Flash to make it seem like things were growing around the photo of carrots I took. I made it subtle to go with the natural content and to highlight the photo rather than cover it up. I had fun with this and could definitely see applications for this process.
